Self-defense is not just about learning how to punch or defend oneself, it's also about being aware of the risks in everyday life. It includes training in awareness of risks, recognizing signs that may indicate dangerous individuals or situations and thinking ahead for ways to avoid them, including identifying safe havens.
This type of self-defense is different from traditional martial arts because it does not focus on fighting, but teaches the individual skills to escape and avoid dangerous situations. Self-defense seeks to give individuals a sense of empowerment by teaching them how they can control their own actions instead of reacting in fear or anger.
Our goal is to empower our self-defense participants and help them discover their own strength. We recognize that while there is nothing anyone ever does that makes it their fault if someone else chooses to assault them, there are things anyone can do to make assault less likely.
